Terms of Service

Version 2026-10-24

The rules for using Magister Desk, including how subscriptions work and the Data Processing Terms between teachers and Magister Desk.

Version history

  • 2026-10-24 — First published version.
  1. 1. Who these terms are between

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Magister Desk. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you are a teacher using the service for a school, you confirm that you are allowed to accept them on the school’s behalf. Contact: support@magisterdesk.com.

  2. 2. What the service is

Magister Desk lets teachers create courses, build question banks, run written and oral assessments, collect assignments, grade work and keep a gradebook, and lets their students complete that work and see their results.

Some features use artificial intelligence to draft questions, extract students or questions from uploaded files, suggest grades and transcribe spoken answers. These are suggestions. The teacher reviews and decides; nothing produced by artificial intelligence becomes a grade or a saved question without the teacher’s confirmation.

  3. 3. Your account

    • You must be sixteen or older to use the service. Teachers may only invite students who are sixteen or older.
    • Students can register only with an email address a teacher has entered for them.
    • Give accurate information and keep it up to date. One account per person; do not share your login.
    • You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password secret and tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.
    • You may close your account at any time from the Privacy and data page.
  4. 4. Teachers, students and student work

Teachers decide who joins their courses, what is assessed and how it is graded. Teachers can add and remove students from their list and from courses, place them in groups, and create, edit and delete their own courses, assessments and assignments.

Student work is the student’s. Once a student has started an assessment or assignment — an attempt in progress, a saved draft, an uploaded file — a teacher cannot delete that work, remove the student from that item, or delete the item or the course that holds it. The delete option remains for items no student has started.

Students always keep access to their own submitted work and results, even if the teacher removes them from a course or closes their account.

Teachers are responsible for the data they enter about their students, for informing their students, and for using it only to teach and assess them.

  5. 5. If you are a student

You use the service because a teacher invited you. You never pay, you see no advertising, and nothing you do here is used for any purpose other than your courses.

    • Your teacher decides what you are asked to do, when it is due and how it is graded. Questions about grades, deadlines or course content go to your teacher; we cannot see or change them for you.
    • When you take an assessment, we record what you submit: your answers, uploaded files and, for oral assessments, your voice recording and its written transcript. Your teacher sees all of it. During a proctored assessment we also record events such as leaving the page or switching windows and show them to your teacher, who decides what they mean. Nothing is submitted or graded automatically because of them.
    • Where artificial intelligence suggests a grade or transcribes your answer, it is a suggestion to your teacher, and the result is labelled as such. Your teacher confirms every grade.
    • Your work is yours. Your teacher cannot delete it once you have started, and you keep access to your submitted work and results even after a course ends or your teacher removes you from it.
    • You can request a copy of your data or delete your account at any time from the Privacy and data page. Deleting your account permanently removes your work, your results and your recordings.
    • If something does not work — you cannot log in, an invitation link fails, an assessment or recording will not start — write to us at support@magisterdesk.com, or through the Contact page, and we will help.
  6. 6. Your content

Everything you put into the service — course material, questions, answers, files, recordings — remains yours. You give us only the permission needed to store it, show it to the people you intend, and provide the features you use, including the artificial-intelligence features described above. We never use your content to train artificial-intelligence models, to advertise, or for any purpose other than running the service.

You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

  7. 7. Our content

The platform itself — its software, design, name, logo, texts, images and the way it works — belongs to Magister Desk or to the people who licensed it to us. Using the service gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use it as these terms allow, and nothing more. You may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer it, or remove any ownership notices. You may link to our public pages.

If you believe something on the platform infringes your rights, write to support@magisterdesk.com and we will look into it promptly.

  8. 8. Subscriptions and payment

Students never pay. Teachers get a free trial and then choose a paid plan.

    • Plans, prices and what each includes are shown on the pricing page and at checkout. The price you see when you subscribe is the price you pay for each renewal until we announce a change.
    • Subscriptions renew automatically, monthly or yearly as you chose, and are charged to your payment method at each renewal.
    • You can cancel, upgrade or downgrade at any time from the Billing page. Upgrades apply at once; cancellations and downgrades take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep full access until then.
    • If we change a price, we announce it to you before the renewal it applies to, so you can cancel first.
    • Before a yearly renewal we send you a reminder with the renewal date and amount.
    • If a payment fails we retry for a few days and tell you by email; if it still fails, access to teacher features is suspended until payment succeeds. Your data is not deleted.
    • Receipts and invoices are sent by email and available on the Billing page.
  9. 9. Changing your mind: the fourteen-day withdrawal right

You may withdraw from a new subscription within fourteen days of subscribing, for any reason, and receive a full refund. This applies to every customer, wherever you live. Write to support@magisterdesk.com; we cancel the subscription and refund the payment to the payment method you used.

One exception, in fairness: if at checkout you asked us to start the service immediately and then made substantial use of it before withdrawing — for example extensive use of the artificial-intelligence features — Magister Desk may keep an amount proportional to the days of service you used and refund the rest.

  10. 10. Where the service is available

The service is offered only to people living, or schools established, in the countries listed on our Supported countries page. Your country of residence decides; travelling does not change it. We may ask you to confirm your country if the information you give us is inconsistent.

  11. 11. What you may not do

    • Upload or share content that is unlawful, infringes someone else’s rights, or is harmful to others.
    • Try to access another person’s account, courses or data, or to get around the checks that protect them.
    • Interfere with proctoring, or help someone else do so.
    • Use the service to collect personal data about students for any purpose other than teaching and assessing them.
    • Resell the service, or use automated tools to copy its content or overload it.

If you do, we may suspend or close your account. Where we can, we warn you first.

  12. 12. Data Processing Terms (for teachers)

For the personal data of students inside a teacher’s courses, the teacher (or their school) is responsible for the data and Magister Desk is their service provider. This section is our data processing agreement with every teacher. We commit to the following.

    • We process students’ data only on the teacher’s instructions, as given through the features of the service, and only to provide the service.
    • Everyone who works on the service is bound to confidentiality.
    • We protect the data with encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, private expiring links for files, and continuous backups.
    • We use two other providers to deliver the service: a cloud hosting provider operating in the European Union and a payment provider. We bind them to the same obligations. If we ever add another, we tell teachers in advance so they can object.
    • When a teacher closes their account we delete the teacher’s personal data. Students’ own work stays available to the students who produced it, because it is theirs.
    • If a security incident affects students’ data, we tell the teacher without undue delay with what we know.
    • On request we provide the information a teacher or school needs to show that this processing is lawful.
    • For schools in the United States: we act as a school official under the school’s direct control. Student information is used only for the school’s educational purposes, never for advertising, never sold, never used to build profiles, and deleted at the school’s request.
  13. 13. Availability, changes and ending the service

We work to keep the service available at all times, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or improve features; if we remove a feature you depend on, we tell you in advance.

We are not responsible for interruptions caused by events outside our control — for example failures of the internet or of our providers, power cuts, natural disasters, strikes or government action — but we will restore the service as quickly as we can and tell you what happened.

Teachers may link to outside websites from their course material, and the assistant may point to outside resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their handling of your data.

If we ever had to stop offering the service, we would give you at least three months’ notice and the time to download your data.

  14. 14. Liability

We are liable for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for anything the law does not allow us to exclude. Beyond that, our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event. We are not liable for grades or decisions a teacher makes; those are the teacher’s.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

  15. 15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the country where Magister Desk is established. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring a dispute before the courts of your own country. We will always try to resolve a problem by talking first: write to support@magisterdesk.com.

  16. 16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version date is shown at the top of this page, together with a short note on what changed. If a change matters — prices, refunds, how we handle data, liability — we tell you by email before it takes effect and ask you to accept the new version the next time you log in. If you do not agree, you can close your account.

When you subscribe, we email you a copy of the version you accepted, so you always have the exact text that applies to your subscription.
